Mackinac Mill Creek Campground. Mackinaw City
Back on the road to our next destination Mackinac City! Again we met our fate with some tight gravel road detours but Phil was able to navigate us around them completely and stay on pavement! Our destination was Mackinaw Mill Creek Campground and I would give you a big thumbs up to recommend it. This campground hosts a spectacular natural setting on the shores of Lake Huron and is situated on a mile of lakefront, viewing the Straits of Mackinac. From the natural beaches you'll be able to view the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island. You'll also be able to see Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, Round Island and Bois Blanc Island. The grounds are expansive and yet you feel close to everything. I loved that the park let the wildflowers grow and each section feels like a community. The store is filled with unique Mackinac finds, camping goods and necessities. Rent a bike or a funny two-person peddling carriage and take a tour of the grounds! There are several trails to get lost on and of course spend every second you can on the beach fishing or playing in the water. This was our favorite campsite. Being able to walk right out of your camper to the beach to enjoy sunrises, sunsets and bridge views while watching our son enjoy the water is a memory, I will hold dear.
If you are a stargazer like I am you may experience neck strain from looking up and taking in the beautiful night skies. Side note; and this did not get checked off of my bucket list (this time), but if you have a free evening don’t miss the Headlands International Dark Sky Park! It is over 550 acres of county park with 2 miles of undeveloped shoreline on the straits of Mackinac. Many have seen the northern lights in the right conditions and millions of stars! Still bummed we missed this!
